At the age of 22 years, in 2009, I was involved in a car accident that changed the course of my life. The accident was not life-threatening at the time, but it management to tare two discs in my lumbar (lower) spine. As a result I have suffered years of chronic pain on-and-off, spent countless hours in physical therapy, and undergone two surgeries to relieve pressure on major nerves in my spine.
Maybe I’m naive, or perhaps slightly daft, but I have never accepted that this incident could define my life and the person I become. Since 2009 I have progressed from a noob who knew nothing of anatomy, movement or therapy, to becoming heavily engaged in all of these things.
This blog is about my pursuit for health and wellbeing, despite my injuries and associated issues. It is about my experiences as a patient and client engaged in various types of movement therapy – what I’ve learned and what works for me.
It is my healing journal, and perhaps a tool that may help others in their pursuit of injury rehabilitation also.
